Hey there business leaders!
You may realize how important good content is in today's marketing and advertising world, it definitely gives a big impact for the business and brand.
Lucky for us we have someone like Shane Barker, a content marketing genius! He has been in the marketing industry for 25 years and has published works in Inc, Forbes, Entrepreneur and the Huffington post.
Shane is a Co-Founder of Attrock, digital marketing agency. He also runs the agency with his team and consulted Fortune 500 companies.
And today, I just launched my podcast interview with Shane and pumped to share it with all of you. There was so much useful content on this interview!
My favorite take away was a 6 part system for building a content marketing system. Here are the steps.
Step 1. Research Your Competitors / Determine Platform
You want to determine the best marketing platform for your industry. There so many to choose from… Podcast, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Etc… The cool part about the internet is you can look at what your competitors doing to get an idea of what trends are working in your specific space.
Step 2. Talk To A Mentor
Once you decide which platform(s) you are going to use the next step is to find a mentor who has experience producing this type of content. You will want to ask them questions related to the estimated time commitment and budget for producing this content. They can also help you get ideas for what to produce (if you are unsure where to start)
Step 3. Repurpose Content
After you have made a great piece of content the next thing to think about all the different places you can repurpose the same content. Shane explains this is how you produce so many different types of content with little effort. For example you can repurpose a podcast episode to youtube, linkedin article, facebook and instagram with not much more effort.
Step 4. Budgeting
After talking with the mentor you will have a good idea of the amount of money and time it will take to be producing this content. Make sure you can afford it!
Step 5. Commit
Shane explains how the biggest challenge with producing content is people give up to quickly. He says takes at least 3 to 6 months before you see any results. You need to be mentally prepared to continue on the same strategy this for at least 3 months.
Step 6. Delegation
I love this part, because I’m all about systems. Shane discussed hiring Virtual Assistants to help with a lot of work related to producing the content. He explained if they can get it 80% of the way done, then all you have to is the final check. The more delegation the better. When speaking with a mentor they will be able to let you in on which parts can easily be delegated.
